Macro lens!

I found a great deal on a 105mm AF-S lens, and spent last night playing with my new toy.

1: The Handbook of Chemistry and Physics has just about everything in it you could ever want. I picked this pristine copy up for $20 (WOW!) about a year ago in a used book store.

2: All three of these images were lit with a snooted strobe coming from camera right, pointed almost back at the camera. They're all balanced for flash, and in this shot you can see a bit of reddish illumination from the overhead tungsten lights. I think it makes a nice contrast across the page.

3: Closeup of one of the sections on particle physics. I tried putting other objects in frame, but none of them ended up looking right. Perhaps I'll try this again with a sheet of handwritten equations.

4: Let's see . . . what else can I try my new lens on? Oh, I know: the cats!
